Critical ages for children to be examined are 6-18 months and again at age 3, to see if eyes and vision are developing normally. The next exam is before first grade to assess visual readiness and in time for preventive care for susceptible children, and third grade when many children’s vision begins to deteriorate or first impedes learning.
